Australian maximum & medium security prisons:
Prior to meeting Brent I suffered from severe anxiety, agoraphobia and depression. These issues had totally debilitated me and overwhelmed my life. I was not able to work, not able to leave the house, I couldn’t deal with life in general and I felt there was not much hope for my future. I had to rely on a Disability Support Pension to survive.
One day I was introduced to Brent and through his teachings my life has been fully transformed. The introduction of Yoga, meditation and positive thinking gave me a whole new perspective on life. I had heard of Yoga but never realised what an effect it can have on mental well-being.
I now own and run my own successful business, I have a house and a beautiful family, things that I once never even dreamed possible. I am happy, confident and enriched by life and I now pass these teachings onto my own children. I still practice yoga and meditation on a regular basis.
Thanks Brent, your teachings have empowered me and positively changed my life.

Brent a free man - going bush with his 4WD
Approximately three months ago I met Brent whilst he was in Alexander North/South units painting the [prison] cells. I had noticed Brent “Getting around” and I was attracted to a certain attitude he seemed to possess. (Positive lust for life.)
It wasn’t until I moved into the same [prison] unit as Brent that I met him. While it has only been a couple of months since we first spoke, it has been time enough for me to have formed a very high opinion of him.

My name is Brent Ovalsen. I am the founder of Anahata Karma Pty Ltd, a way of life that seeks to help you access the divine within.
I spent 5,533 days in prison from 1999 to 2014.
4 years on Parole from 2014 to 2018.
My incarceration time was spent in a different manner to many of my fellow inmates. At the pivotal moment that was the onset of my incarceration, I made a proclamation to myself that one day I would tell my grandchildren how I used the time to be the most productive person I had ever been. As it turned out, this pivot in my internal thinking, saved me and turned me into a survivor and an achiever. I challenged the normal way of doing jail with all the things that ended up being against me, and each moment I focussed on utilising the time for a positive cultivation of my consciousness.
It was easy I found, to focus on what I did not have. In fact, most of the negative talk and gossip in prison was designed to feed this monster, which causes anxiety and depression to overtake most men, with eighty percent on medications. Instead, I took the unique approach of disregarding all of that, and only focussing on what I did have. Sometimes it was just the fact that I was relatively fit and healthy and that I could use my mind how I wanted. No one could control what I chose to think. And this, as it turns out, gives one enormous personal power regardless of the external dramas. We can all choose at each moment to think positive and joy-filled thoughts, regardless of what our internal dialogue is trying to convince us is otherwise.

From day one in an underground city dungeon, where many were dumped for up to a month until prison beds were available, I was a listening ear to many and seemed to have an intuitive gift to inspire and sometimes offered up prophecy that actually came to pass. This meant that at times I was greeted at new prisons some weeks later by men who had been positively affected through our interactions, and they would greet me loudly, like one muscle bound, red-bearded Irishman, "Ahhh, my spiritual friend, great to see you, come and have a coffee!"
It quickly became apparent that all the good I was giving out, both planted seeds and gave me purpose in the midst of a radical environment.
From the moment I entered prison, I studied everything that I could get my hands on, reading hundreds of books and magazines on subjects from quantum physics to taxation to self-development and meditation. I consumed countless autobiographies and as time went on, I wrote my own self-development and spiritual literature. Little did I know that I would start a small publishing company one day.
In maximum security I was blessed with a teacher to train me for 2 1/2 years in Shiatsu Pressure Point Massage. Hundreds of inmates benefited from this and it made for great barter.
I had a Yoga teacher for four years, which culminated in me being approved by the prison Governor to run prison Yoga, meditation and self-development classes for approximately 12-years up to six days per week.
I informally studied law and assisted numerous men to navigate the legal system including helping men who had no family violence history to get access to see their children.
Early on in maximum security prison, I was trained to become a prison-endorsed counsellor and the guards sent inmates to me for counselling and motivation. I did this for about fourteen years inside the prison walls and was humbled by the changes in many inmates, transforming them from criminals to men you would be happy to have as your neighbour in the real world.
These were informal sessions, sometimes in my cell, perhaps on the bed in an inmate's cell, or walking around the prison yard. What made me different to most people in prison, was that I never repeated anything, and this is a pertinent point, for us men need to know that what we are sharing is confidential - period. Numerous men have revealed sexual, physical and psychological abuse to me, often for the very first time in their lives. Having personally been abused physically and psychologically, I have a great understanding, empathy and importantly a set of strategies that may assist greatly to embrace life in prison, on parole and in final freedom.
On my personal journey, back in 1993 at age 20, I was involved with three others in committing and getting away with a capital crime, as well as being an alcohol and drug abuser. In 1994 I began to actively seek inner change for a few years. This culminated in me handing myself in for that unsolved crime in February 1999. It would be 15 years before I saw the outside world again. I managed to get through 5,533 days of imprisonment incident free, then four years of parole. Today I am peaceful and positive about life and I no longer drink or take drugs. In fact, I get high on life through a mainly organic diet and meditation and embracing the present moment. A lot of people talk about living in the moment - easier said than done! For me to achieve this seemingly impossible task has taken a lot of study, a lot of teachers, and a lot of contemplative meditation and a lot of self-forgiveness. I feel emotions like everyone else; the difference nowadays though, is that I channel them in the right way, and by embracing the present moment I find that grace flows through me and for me, as opposed to being run over by the karma bus in my younger years.
My gift, as it turns out, has been to take ancient philosophy, often complex themes and techniques and meld them into simple practices that anyone can use to achieve very quick results, regardless of family histories, jail habits, and so on. Another blessing that I have been given is the ability to see another person's soul, their truest and fullest aspect, and it is common for me to have deep insights about the person revealed to me from the unseen realms. That might sound a little esoteric, and yet it is always messages ingrained with blessed and positive shifts. In simple terms I am an intuitive, and this often assists me to cut through to the core of issues.
Ex-inmates and parolees do not need to pay for my services unless you are in a positive cash flow position.
